I think that the Swiss 5 is the best tradition of Elfsea Defender.
Challenging fighters to be "schooled in all weapons" is a good thing.  Our
defender must be a true master, not just a shieldman.

This is the reson that we decieded to do a swiss 5 in the dark ages of
Elfsea.

The reverse OP challenge is my second favorite tradition.  We should play
this up to give new fighters a chance to shine.

I also agree that Spring Faire is a great place for a Pas d'Arme or other
type of judged tournament.  At Defender we are looking for the best fighter.
At Spring Faire the goal is to have the most fun.

No change in the format.  There need to be a few traditions, things that you
can count on.  Every new fighter needs to be able to walk to the front of
that line and gain word fame.

Every fighter deserves five fights.  All of those rhino-hiding stick jocks
out there who are sword and board sharks have to pick up a weapon that they
are not necessarily that especially good at.  Kind of evens out the playing
field a bit and keeps fighters in the game longer.  It also allows for
expertise in other areas to develop.

If we want to have a Pas, then let's have a Pas, but not at Defender.
Springfaire is a great time and event for a Pas and we could make a really
really big deal of it.
