Timothy you do make some good points, however you never have to convince the
people that agree with you. In this case I do not agree. Listed below are my
reasons why. Iam just raising the counter point to these points. No insult
or malice is intended in these comments so please don't read any into them.

So let me suggest something completely outside the box.  Change the rules of
the Kingdom Calendar to the following :
  1 - No event will be added to the Calendar closer than 6 months out.
Barony's still have a perpetual date, and all other Baronial events must be
declared 8 months out.

Reservation impossibility.  The real world revolves around  12 month
calendar. So must we. The above solution would absolutely kill the
reservations we fight so hard to get.

  2 - Any group can hold any event any weekend.

Actually this is pretty much true now. You can't hold two event in the same
region. This just makes plain common sense. You can't compete against Crown
or Coronation according to kingdom law. You could hold an event against
queens champion if you want too or against steppes warlord, or twelfth
night, but most people choose not to. Seems like people pretty much do this
now. They just try to find the best weeknd for there event that the region
and kingdom would not kill there attendance by competeing with other events.
  3 - Groups already on the calendar can move their event, subject to rule
#1.
Actually tgroups can move there event if they want to. although most don't.

  4 - There are no limits on the number of events for any group.

Actually some groups don't meet the limits know. Why would any group want to
hold 5 events a year. Yes it is great in the short run, but it can really
burn your people out quickly.

  5 - Nothing can compete with Crown Tourney or Coronation.
This is true now.

This system is simply put, fair.  It allows any group who wishes to hold an
event on a given weekend.  At 6 months out, that weekend is frozen and you
/know/ who you are competing with for the attention of people.
Actually this system is not that dissimiliar from the current system. You
system would actually speed up the process of burning out a group(just my
opinion)

If a small western shire desires to compete with a Central Regional event,
they can.  Shires have two addition months from when a Barony's date is
frozen to decide if they want to move off of or in to a particular weekend.

Ah the exceptions begin:) Western groups realize where people travel from
and try to plan to there benfit. Kudo's to the west for being on the ball.

The removal of event limits will encourage groups to put on the calendar
smaller baronial gatherings which already are affecting attendance but you
can't know about them without extensive research.
 For instance, if Ravensfort had a work weekend for the Stones scheduled on
the same weekend of your event, and Greywood and Bordermarch were doing the
same at Jones Country you might not currently know this without reading
there email lists, but with this they could let everyone know about these
smaller gatherings.  You could plan for 3/5ths of the Coastal Region to be
busy with other things and as such unlikely to attend.

I have found that most regions already know about each others local events.
Adding these events to the calendar would only again make the calendar more
crowded not less,

Would this require a major change? Yep.
Not as much as you would think.

Would this hurt small groups? No, they could compete with whomever THEY
chose to.
I disagree this would really hurt small groups becuase the larger and more
populace and prepared baronies coudl easily swallow up all the dates. If the
barony gets if first no one in the same region will want to compete against
it.

Would this hurt Barony's?  Possibly, if a MAJOR shire event (3 Kings) was
put onto your weekend after you were frozen.  But this is the risk for given
some leeway to smaller groups
Probably not as much as you think.

Could Elfsea and Steppes, both with there eyes open, choose to compete on
the same weekend with different events?  Yep, and the success or failure of
each would be determined by the attendance and effort put into the event.

I won't really reply to this other than I really hope not.

Remember always that people will go where they think they will have fun.
Totally Agree with this point!

  Trying to regulate that via the Kingdom Calendar is a bad idea, and will
fail in the end.
Strongly disagree and would take up to much time to say why.

  It's possible small changes could put off eventual collapse of the
structure, but I believe like any regulated market where both supply
(events) and demand (people) are not under the control of the regulating
agency it is doomed for failure eventually.

I do beleive that some sort of major change is in order.
