AMEN! 
I still remember Mr. Smith, my high school history teacher. It's because
of him that I got interested in Dante's Inferno and The Three Musketeers
(-5 for spelling). He only required that we read ANYTHING for a book
report. 
I also remember my 1st/3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Westfield. She was always
so nice, esp. since I was reading 3rd grade level in 1st grade--she
never tried to hold me back.
