I love to go to museums as well. Were you aware that the Kimbell is
currently running an exhibit called "The Quest for Immortality: Treasures
from Ancient Egypt"? It started today and will run through 09/14/03.
There are discounts on Tuesdays with tickets being $9.00 for adults,
$8.00 for seniors and $7.00 for children aged 6 to 11 with children under
6 free. Regular prices are $16.00, $14.00 and $12.00 respectively.
There is a full scale replica of a tomb, canopic jars, ushbetis, board
games, a spectacular gold funerary mask (6 ft. long!), an 8 ft. model of
the boat used to convey the deceased to the afterlife, etc. There are
108 items in all, many in gold. Unlike the exhibits of Rameses or
Tutankhamen, this exhibit covers 2,000 years of Egyptian history from the
Middle Kingdom to the Ptolemacic Period. (When the Egyptians got sick of
Ptolemies, that period ended!) This exhibit will probably be pretty
crowded on weekends and evenings but by going on a Tuesday, we can save
some $$ and see an awesome exhibit. If I have to go by myself to see
this, I will but I thought it would be a really neat outing at a good
price.
