Have you tried smacking the carburetor with a crescent wrench?  This seems to fix 
a lot of things.  Unfortunately for those of us currently stuck with fuel injected cars, 
smacking the injection unit doesn't work nearly as well.

If it electrical, most AutoZone and other major parts stores will check it for free, and 
your battery may be under warranty if you can remember where you got it.  (If not, 
check the brand, as certain brands are only carried by certain stores)
