Avoid things that are washed and not then cooked; salads, fruits that do not need peeling, drink only canned or bottled drinks that you know were not opened previously. If a soda has lost its fizz it might have been mixed in the bar, rather than freshly opened. Alcohol will not kill all the evil little bugs. Try to check how the dishes are cleaned when your food is served. And how did they chill that glass full of the wine cooler? Most "four star" type places use only bottled or filtered sterile water for all drinks that they serve their guests, but remember to be careful when brushing your teeth in your room.
