Well said. From the bottom of my heart, I join my nation in saying "Thank you." I am proud to say that I am:
Grand-niece of 7 decorated WW2 vets, Army and Marines
Neice of 2 decorated Korean Conflict vets, Army and Navy
Cousin of 1 decorated WW2 vet, Army
Cousin of 1 Honour Guard Marine
Friend of many of all branches of service
Daughter of a man who never gave up volunteering for service in Korea and Vietnam despite being turned down because he was too disabled due to post-polio syndrome, and Gulf War because he was TOO OLD and disabled. He did what he could by working at Ft. Wolters in Mineral Wells,TX as a civilian. It is this spirit that keeps the flame of patriotism alive.

I grew up immersed in the stories of heroism and bravery that they saw in their comrads and brothers. They would also occsionally speak of the atrocities that they saw.

Recently, a man who the entire town of Stephenville, TX knew as "Sarge" died. He was 80-something years old, a WW2, Korea, and Vietnam vet. I loved to sit and listen to the stories he would tell. He had insomnia, and I worked night shift. We'd sit at the counter at a local diner and swap stories over coffee. He was a big, hearty, jolly man. Always laughing. Sometimes he'd get really quiet. When he was in this mood, he would talk about the Normandy invasion. You see, he was there. He was 17. He'd talk about it sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes longer. Then he'd stop, shake his head and stare into his coffee cup. We'd sit there quietly for a few minutes. He'd eventually pick up the cup, raise it up in the air, as if in a toast, and take a sip. Then, he'd wipe away a tear, and go back to talking about sports, or the weather as if nothing had happened. I miss him.

Please forgive this off topic post but I wish to say from my hart to the
populace of Elfsea :
Today is Veterans Day. I wish to express my humble thanks to all who
have and are still serving in the protection of me my family and most
importantly my country. The United States of America is bless to have such
people to serve her. You men and women from the past to the present, have my
greatest respect. Thank you all. To the sons, daughters, wives, and husbands
who keep the home fires burning for these fine souls you also are the ones
who risk their hart. I wish to say thank you for all you have done for the
soldiers of this fine country.
