[Elfsea] Newsletter options

Good morning,

Caelin is already aware of my thoughts; we've discussed this in person twice
before.

Here's the summary for everyone else:

1) I prefer a paper newsletter. I'm glad that the SCA is utilizing
online tools for some things, but I don't think everything we do needs to be
virtualized.

2) I have many reasons for preferring the paper newsletter. Included
are a sense of tradition and the problem of protecting sensitive information
(page 2) which is REQUIRED. There are others.

3) $12/year is a very minimal price to pay for a newsletter. I don't
find cost to be an issue.

4) I'm the Chronicler for the next 14 months. While I'm the
Chronicler, the Tidings will remain a paper newsletter.

5) If the B&B decide the barony wants a virtual version immediately,
I'll step down happily and one of you folks can take over.

End of story.

Valentyn

This was also covered at the chronicler's meeting at the Roundtable last
January. I think I sat next to you, as a matter of fact.

What are Valentine's thoughts on this? He is the current officer, right?

Caelin, isn't there a way to do a .pdf file that is accessed through a
password? I get those with my student loan and they are pass-word protected.
I get a monthly e-mail with a hyperlink to the webpage or to the .pdf file
and get a pop-up screen that's password protected. That way, the newsletter
could still have the private contact information and not be available for
the web nasties out there.

Just a suggestion,

Xene

We covered this at the last Roundtable in the Chroniclers' Meeting (Virtual
Scribes are under the Chronicler). They said you could publish web if and
only if the newsletter was offered to all at no cost. Printed copies are
still required to form the reporting for the Chronicler.
