For some reason this bounced to the list manager, so I'm forwarding it in to the list.

Arabella here: I can answer a few of the questions for you.....see below

	1. What will the weather be like, and how wet?

chilly bring a winter coat, this is texas you never know what the weather will be like, it might rain, you by a slim chance see some ice after Christmas, but in my 45 years I've never had a white christmas... there have been many white and frozen January's though.

	2. Given that we'll likely be down there during
the week between Christmas and New Year's, how bad
or indifferent will the traffic be?

this is Dallas Ft Worth - rush hour traffic is from 6:30 am till 9:30 am and from 3:00pm until 7:00 pm - no matter where you want to go always add 45 minutes to 1 hour or more if you travel across city lines. If you stay inside the same city it's more like 20 - 30 minutes

	Are there major
commuter tides to worry about on the highways during
rush hour, whenever that may be, or is the area like
LA where all highways are equally horrid in all
	directions?

consider yourself in LA I guess...

	3. Given that we might be there over New Year's and
considering that neither of us are fans of amateur
drinking night, how bad is New Year's eve locally in
terms of successfully avoiding noise and drunk
drivers? (We were thinking, actually, of doing New
Year's eve at that rumored amusement park...)

Holiday in the Park at Six Flags is a fun place. Both Art museums in Dallas and Fort Worth are great. Go to www.dart.org <http://www.dart.org/> for Dallas Area Rapid Transit then on the left side select Rider Insider Calendar <http://www.dart.org/about/riderinsider/specialevents.asp> and it will give you links to alot of area holiday happenings.

I'm sure there will be many SCA parties on New Years Eve for you to attend. I'll bet if you make it known you want to visit with some folks a party will materialize. The SCA is like that, you know how it is.... we are always looking for a reason to have some fun.

	4. Is it worth packing SCA clothes and making the
event on the 5th in Athens? There appears to not be
any sort of event schedule on the website except
for the rather strange notice that table decorators
get in at 9 am and the hoi polloi get in at 10 AM...
(do people really show up that early in Ansteorra
to events??? we bed slugs of the world are DOOMED!!!)
So does anyone know what is planned for folks to do
	at your jointly-held 12th night?

Yes please pack your SCA clothes. 12 night is very much a tradition in these parts. It is usually an event where every one wears their finiest garb, very high personna. It is an event when we actually get to visit with each other, communicate, instead of competing against each other, since there is usually no fighting at this event.

The feast is being done by one of the best period chefs in the area. Sir Gunthar is very modest about it, he definately doesn't like to toot his own horn, so I will. He is terrific... I will always go where he and his crew are cooking.

It will be interesting to see 2 baronial courts happening at the same time. It doesn't happen often in our kingdom, court will be interesting. Dueling Heralds often makes for really great court "SCHITCK". Their Majesties and Highnesses are not slated to attend, but that doesn't mean that there will be a short court.

	5. Please don't laugh - we really are woefully
ignorant about things in your part of the world.
The fishing addict wants to know if there is any
fishing to speak of in December and/or January?
(I suspect the folks who work at the place where
12th Night is being held might know... ;-)

I'll let someone else answer the big fish strories

Looking forward to meeting you
Arabella
