Last night was great!  We had fourteen fighters in armor , several were members of the Chivalry, and fifteen additional members of the populace. Thanks to everyone who came out and made it such a good time.

Just a reminder, Sir Kurn from Trimaris will be out tomorrow, so if you like
fighting folks who aren't from around here, go help fill his dance card.

Greetings to all!

I would like to extend a hearty and heartfelt thanks to Lord Daniel and Lady
Elayne for opening their home to the Bards tonight. They were very gracious
to do so, and we had a wonderful time.

Bards, take note. The Guild can only succeed if you participate. Many of you
have come to me and said what a wonderful thing it is that the Guild has
restarted. Yet, I have not seen many of you at the meetings. We cannot
succeed if you do not show up. If you want to see a particular subject
covered, be it storytelling, songwriting or research, PLEASE let me know and
I will make it happen. Then, PLEASE show up to the meetings. We have many
great things planned for the next few months, and there are many bardic
opportunities to be had at upcoming events. If the second Tuesday of the
month doesn't work, PLEASE let me know. The Bardic meeting dates are NOT
set
in stone, nor are the meeting places. If you would like to host a Bardic
Guild meeting, PLEASE let me know.

In the past, Elfsea has been renowned for her Bards. Let's make that happen
again.

Until then, I shall remain...

Ever in service with a song and a smile,
Lady Eleanor Cleavely
Bard of Elfsea
Head of the Elfsea Bardic Guild
Descendant of the White Oak

Greetings unto the Baronies of Steppes and Elfsa and the Cantons of
Lindenwood and Glaslyn!

As previously posted, SMU has invited us to be part of a wonderful
opportunity at the Meadows Museum on July 12. They are having an exhibition
of 14th and 15th Century Spanish art and this is SMU's Family Day. We are
looking for fighters, artisans, performers, or people just to come and walk

opportunity for the SCA to shine and cultivate a great relationship with the
school.
If you would like to fight, please contact HL Fiacha at fiacha5 at gmail.com.
If you would like to participate in any other way, please contact me.

Here are the details:

When: Saturday, July 12, 2008, 11-2 (Set up at 10)
Where: SMU Meadows Museum (Fighters will be on the North Side of the plaza
right outside the museum. Artisans will be in the Jones Great Room)

MEADOWS MUSEUM PRESENTS
"MEDIEVAL FAMILY DAY" ON JULY 12, 11 AM-2 PM

DALLAS (SMU) ? The days of Queen Isabella, King Ferdinand and
Christopher Columbus come to life at the Meadows Museum's "Family
Day"
celebrating the art and culture of medieval Spain, on Saturday, July 12 from
11 a.m. to 2 p.m.. The event is being held in conjunction with the museum's
current exhibition, "Fernando Gallego and His Workshop: The Altarpiece of
Ciudad Rodrigo - Paintings from the Collection of the University of Arizona
Museum of Art," on view through July 27.
Visitors are invited to step back in time and interact with
members of the royal medieval court in full costume, aka the Society for
Creative Anachronism, who will demonstrate sword fighting and discuss
traditional crafts and culture of the period. Children of all ages will be
able to examine and sketch works of art from the Ciudad Rodrigo altarpiece
and then create their own panel paintings in the art studio; all materials
will be provided. Young and old alike can take the "patron saint
quiz" and
find their own personal patron saint in the museum galleries. Docent-guided
tours of the Gallego exhibit will be offered at 11:30 a.m., and of the
permanent collection of Spanish art at 12:30 p.m. Refreshments will be
served throughout the event in the Jones Great Hall.

About the exhibition:
"Fernando Gallego and His Workshop: The Altarpiece from Ciudad Rodrigo ?
Paintings from the Collection of the University of Arizona Museum of Art"
focuses on one of the largest, most beautiful and iconographically ambitious
groups of paintings made in 15th-century Spain: 26 panels from the Cathedral
of Ciudad Rodrigo, now in the collection of the University of Arizona Museum
of Art. Executed by Fernando Gallego (c. 1440-1507), Maestro Bartolom?, and
their workshops, the altarpiece tells the Biblical story from the Creation
to the Last Judgment. The crowning achievements of remarkable artists, the
panels have been examined in depth both art historically and, in
collaboration with the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, using the latest
methods of technical analysis, revealing secrets hidden for 500 years. The
research findings, which include scans and X-rays of the paintings'
underdrawings, are on exhibit with the altarpiece. This exhibition and study
has been organized by the Meadows Museum, SMU in association with the
University of Arizona Museum of Art, Tucson and the Kimbell Art Museum. A
generous gift from The Meadows Foundation has made this exhibition and study
possible, with additional support from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation.

General Information:
During Family Day hours, admission to the museum and its exhibitions is
FREE. The museum is located at 5900 Bishop Blvd. on the campus of Southern
Methodist University. Free parking is available in the museum's underground
garage. Regular museum hours are 10-5 Tues.-Sat.; 10-8 Thurs.; and 12-5 Sun..
The museum is closed Mondays and holidays. Regular museum admission is $8
per person, free on Thursdays after 5 p.m., and free for members and
children under 12. For more information, please call 214-768-4993 or
