I personally like the idea of having Defender in October in somewhat cooler weather; didn't realize that this was an option!Rua

Though these are out of the region, in the past we have tried (sometimes been told to) avoid conflicts with adjoining regions (all other regions adjoin the Central region – arghh). We could also expect some drop in attendance from those who would attend these. But this is a discussion point and not a “cannot happen” kind of thing. Thanks for taking the time to come up with a good option.

Please remember that with the global warming our weather patterns have changed over the years. It is not as cool in September as it once was years ago. With that thought in mind why not move it into October? They second or third weekend would not be that bad. I already checked and we would not be conflicting with anything in the region.

10-12

Namron Protectorate - Namron (Norman , OK) *PED*Tourney by the Loch - Loch Soilleir (Clear Lake, Tx)

17-19

Ursae-Lyons - Bjornsborg (San Antonio, TX) *PED*Battle of the Pines - Graywood, (Lufkin, TX )

It would still be in the fall and not as bad. With the price of gas it would make something close for those of us that could make the event.

As the price of gas continues to go up, everyone will have to make choices about events. Here is a list of Pro's and Con's for a defender in September, May, and I am going to add another weekend the fourth Saturday in January just because its open.

Defender in May

Weather - Cool temperatures, but threat of rain, as long as the event is not at Canton I will say this is a PRO. Average temp. is 75-80 degrees
2nd weekend in May is mother's day weekend - Con?
Last Event before Coronation - PRO
Same month as Coronation, Steppes warlord, and queens champion. Con
New date for Defender Pro and con.

Defender in September
Weather - warmer temperatures but threat of rain. Pro or con you decide Average Temp is 85 - 93 degrees
No longer that last tourney before crown - Con
One weekend before major melee event Con
First baronial event in the central region since may. PRO

Defender in January
3 weeks after 12th night - CON
Weather Cold but can be very cold. Pro or con you decide. average temp 30 to 65 degrees
This will be the first tourney after Crown Tourney. PRO
No real competition from any event in January or Feb on the fighting front PRO

Anyway just some food for thought
