[Elfsea] Bordermarch Melees Camp

Hi, Emma! I am touched that you are interested in pronouncing my name correctly... nobody ever gets it right, and that's one reason I use Rua so much. My mundane name is Mary Ann, which all these lazy people I know want to shorten to Mary, so to have people in the SCA call me Mary takes me out of the medieval moment. If you say the "M" sound then give a little sigh..."ahh" like someone just started rubbing a sore shoulder, then put the "ri" on the end, you'll have it... or like Marie, but with the accent on the first syllable instead of the second.

LOL, of course, with all the focus on my Scadian proper name, I slipped and signed an email to a mundane friend "Rua", and now the folks out there in the real world are starting to call me Rua! I just can't seem to keep my two lives seperate!

I went to the practice last night and met Beah, Susanna and Gab; they are all very nice and we actually sounded pretty good by the time we got through the song a few times. We are starting with "Now is the Month of Maying", since we all were a little familiar with it. I recorded the alto part on my Sansa (like an iPod but small, pink and cute!) so I have the tune to practice.

When I learned it several years ago the people only knew the soprano part, so that's what we all sang. That group was just a few friends who wanted to learn some period music but had no clue about music in general, we were just tired of the blatently modern music ruining the events.

I woke up with a headache... it's weird because usually I only get headaches if I eat something I am allergic to or the barometric pressure is dropping rapidly... oooh, hurricane coming, never mind...

I am listening to "Band of Brothers" right now, and I think I want to memorize this song as well. I am really annoyed that Ike is interfering with my listening to live music, LOL... Jagermeister was of course cancelled, or at least postponed. I have a feeling that if they reschedule it, they reschedule it across from ED, which would really suck bigtime, as I am committed to working ED and cannot go to anything else that weekend... but I can hope that they reschedule it for a time that isn't across from something I *have to* go to.

Sir Kenneth and Mistress Adelaide are *so* talented... at Gothis I ended up buying six of their CDs, and while there are songs on more than one CD, they are filled with awesome stuff!!! There are at least a dozen songs I am learning just by listening to them (over and over, like a little kid... play it again, mommy!! play it again! LOL)

My mom just called so I am going to get off the computer and talk to her for a bit. Talk to you later!

Hugs, Rua

Oh cool! I will remember it, and use it! You can coach me on proper pronouncement when next we meet.

How are you, and how are things?

Working on this now, more will be coming after Elfsea Defender. Yes, there will be a communal kitchen, at least for breakfast. We're trying to get people to go to taverns, but realistically, with such a huge crowd, we'd need to pre-buy food chits, I think.... There may or may not be a pavilion for a community area, it depends on the site. I need to find out more, but trust me, you will be in the thick of things. I just don't know what those things are going to be yet.

How do you pronounce it? Mary?

Hugs,
Emma

Greetings, Emma! Thanks for taking on this job for us!

Let me know what I can do to help, ok? I am thinking I'll be taking my trailer down with us (since I have a new tent and armor 'n such and I don't want to be leaving what I don't use in the back of my truck exposed to the elements), so if you or anyone else has stuff that needs to be lugged down there, I will most likely have plenty of room.

Will we be having communal dining? Are we taking a pavillion to set up as a common area? I know you said you'd have more information after ED, so I can wait until then to hear/read the answers to these questions.

Mairi Berwyk, called Rua (sorry, I am just liking my new name more and more, LOL)
