Thank you for these. It really helps those of us who want to stay informed but are unable to make it to meetings as often as they like.

Greetings Everyone,

Here are the April Notes. Again this is a long message, so you can ignore it if you wish.
Something is probably misspelled, I'm not worried about it.

Elfsea Business Meeting - 4/20/09

Chronicler: Get Reports into her ASAP. Baroness needs to print them on Thursday morning.

Hearld:
Office is open for Bids. Will close in June so the warrant can be signed at July Roundtable.

Defender Autocrat:
There were about 182-190 people in attendance; Made over $1,000 in profit!!!! ½ of the yearly budget.
Wind did not become a problem until Sunday morning.
The new pavilion lived during the wind and held really well, Blue & White fell down. It had a small rip that the Baron has fixed. Other spots are starting to rip at Roses.
Waiting on a few reports from the people in charge before sending in the final Event report.
Merchants really happy with being inside the buildings. Most did well for them.
Dinner by the Lyst field was really successful and might continue to grow.
Rapier's are talking about taking over the Torchlight Tourney. A lot of them wanted to fight in the dark.
There were fewer problems with the site & the land than last year. Owner really wants to work with the SCA more. [Topic of using site again tabled for now.] Thanks all around to the people who helped

Exchequer:
Needed Sior Tomas' title on the Finical committee, "Member at Large"
Needed copies of new blue cards and membership numbers of some of the Financial committee members.
Helen, the deputy, needs to be placed on the bank account to sign checks.
Question regarding the value of the old Blue & White, on the books for $600. Probably closer to $100.00, but will leave it alone for now or until the item is sold.

Baroness is thinking of using the old Blue & White as a pattern for a new one with the Elfsea ensign and re-enforced seems.

Archery:
Defender was great. The shoot was a ton of fun and everyone loved the castle. What to have one like that all the time. Robin of Northkeep wants to come back.
Lord Gavin is the new Defender.
Marshal promised to get better at being a field herald.
KerMegan (Pryo) is to become a deputy and become a Marshal in Training.

Chamberlain:
Need stuff and volunteers for Warlord.
Learned B&B and others are brining stuff. Will be set up outside under the large blue pavilion roof. This will be for sale.
Items are "make an offer."
Will need to get stuff to Warlord Early.

Elfsea Baronial College Discussion:
Bids still open [now there are three]
The term "college" has taken to mean "A&S" but we want to show it is more than that.
We need the College to teach the SCA 101, business laws, and marshal classes that have not been offered anywhere in a long time. Example was a 3 year member who did not know the meaning of the various Coronets.

Part of a B&B's job is to prepare and train people to serve the Crown, in many ways.

Fall Event:
Bids Due - do not need to have a site selected yet.

HE BG (Avery) is pushing for a war against Moonschadowe. We can be " Switzerland " neutral land upon which they have melee fights. Lots of free advertising from Avery taking the fight up.

Considering another Boy Scot site east of Waco and the Defender sight might be available for cheep.

Baroness would prefer any site to have a hall so the artisan can be protected and have a good space to show off their displays. Melee's will not distract from the Artisan & Bardic competitions like normal tournaments can.

Champion Format Discussion:
Artisan will keep the 5 item limit, made within the last 5 years.

Bardic will keep the requirement that 1 of the pieces be a period piece. It does not have to be memorized unless its a Shakespearian Sonnet. Those are short enough to memorize.

Archery will keep the Swiss 5. Next year, if there are enough loaner cross bows, all competitors might have to shoot with at least 2-3 different styles of bows.

Rapier will keep the Swiss 5. For now it seems everyone is enjoying the format and attendance is not suffering.

Chivalric - changing the format is under consideration. Many of the fighters are tired of the number of Swiss 5 tournaments. There seems to be a since that the Elfsea Championship has lost a bit of Prestige. B&B want to find a way to reclaim it.

The format might still use parts of the Swiss 5 formatting, but it might be altered some. Open for discussion by the populous. Please remain calm during the discussion.

The B&B knows that there is a lot of tradition and feelings behind the tournaments' format.
