At least it sounds like there was good Norse Viking weather...

I must ensure that credit goes where it belongs - Lord Terrence adte Syke taught the pewter casting, and also foisted gruel on unsuspecting Boy Scouts all day as well (though I will say that with a bit of salt and pepper, the gruel actually wasn't that bad).

I, on the other hand, stayed fairly close to the metal working area and demo'ed wood carving by attempting to carve a small block of well-seasoned poplar into a spoon. I think the boys who were watching me as they awaited their turn at the forges were more interested in seeing if I managed to stick myself with a chisel than in what I was actually carving. <grin>

Although the weather alternated between a light mist and a downpour, the day was a great deal of fun, and I think the Boy Scouts and the adult leaders enjoyed having us there.

Padraig

Thank you to the folks who helped out the Boy Scouts at the very wet Camporee / Viking Demo on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Worth Ranch. It went very well, and I'm hoping someone got a picture of hordes of boy scouts in horned helms. We thank Scout Leader Mike Maughan for inviting us to the event.

Thanks to Lord Daniel and HLy Pyro and Master Cailan and Don Sebastian and his wife, who assisted 400+ greatful boys on the archery range in the mud and rain. Thanks also go to the boy scouts for pushing Caelin and Sebastian's vehichles out of the mud and muck, after they sank into the archery range.

At the Iron Working (blacksmithing) demo 60+ older boy scouts completed the iron working project, a belt hanger for a mug. Thanks to Master Eisen for the suggestion of a project, which taught the basics of blacksmithing in 10-15 minutes. HLd Polydore Pike, Baron Daire, and myself stayed very busy that day. We were assisted by HLd Gerhardt and m'lady Cassandra. Thank you everyone for helping in the forge.

Thanks to Mistress Catarina and Lady Elaine for teaching Viking wire weaving and Mistress Hanna for teaching a Viking rope making game. The younger boys were kept busy between their other events.

Thank you to Padraig Ruad O'Maolagain for entertaining the boys by demoing peweter casting all day.

Thanks to HLd Cathal and Gerhardt, who demonstrated their prowess in the chivalric arts.

Thanks to HLy Genevieve and all the others for showing up in Viking outfits to help with the atmosphere and answering the boys questions.

I apologize if I've left anyone out, for there were many of us at the Camporee. I mostly tended a forge fire, teaching blacksmithing in 10 minutes or less with Polydore and Daire, wearing a good deal of soot at the end of the day.

  Silvius,
 Seneschal
