The slightly longer version:

When I got off work Friday I went to see “Iron man
II” with plans to go to Outback later since they were having a promotion,
bring in your ticket stub and get a free appetizer.  After the movie I
went home, took care of a couple of chores, read a few minutes, and left for
Outback about 8:15.  My next door neighbor arrived home and parked in my
driveway about 8:35 and dropped off the prescription he had picked up for his
wife.  He left just a few minutes after that and did notice anything
wrong.  I left the Outback in time to arrive back at home right at or
slightly before 9:00 to find several engines around the house and the fire
actually already out.  My neighbor says there were eleven vehicles total,
but I never got around to counting them.

With the park across the street I live in a fairly high
traffic area, and it seems a passer by noticed or smelled smoke and dialed
911.  Speaking to the firemen I learned that they had found a small
intense fire in the back hallway of my house in the area of the hall closet
between my bedroom and the spare bedroom.  The main fire was out, but they
were ventilating the house and looking in the walls and attic for any sign that
it might have spread.  After I finally found all this out I happened to
glanced at my watch, it was 9:15.  I had only been gone an hour.

When they finally allowed me in I did a walk through with an
 Arlington fire
inspector and an agent from the ATF.  They determined that the fire
started on or around the floor in the hall, near the hall closet and my bedroom
door.  There is nothing there that could have possibly started a
fire.  Further examination of the site showed objects out of place.  After
questioning the first firemen on site we were able to determine that there were
several objects out of place they had not moved.

Many of you know I have been burglarized several times in
the last two years.  The general consensus by the police was it was gang
activity as they always and only went after guns.  At this time we are
operating under the theory that someone broke in, did not find anything they were
interested in stealing, and then lit the fire for spite.

The main part of the house is unlivable, I am in a hotel for
the time being, I may move to a temporary apartment later.  The garage
survived intact along with the bike and everything else in it, and will be used
as temporary storage for whatever is salvaged from the house.  The house
is secure.  Several public adjusters showed up during the fire, one showed
up again Saturday and was willing and able to board the house up right then.
It seemed prudent to go ahead and sign with him.  The fire inspector and
the ATF agent and I also did a more extensive walk through now that it was
light and we could see better.  They had taken evidence samples the night
before, this time they took more samples and photos.  I also found more
evidence of the house being disturbed before the fire.

I met with my adjuster, the insurance adjuster, my agent, and
the insurance company investigator this morning for a deposition.  I made my
statement and received advice and a check for temporary expenses.  The
process is started, they will have salvage and inventory guys out there
starting this afternoon.

Both of me e-mails are still good, as is my cell phone number
if you have it if you need to get in touch with me.  I will continue to
receive mail at the home address no matter where I wind up staying.  That’s
about it for now, I guess…
