[Elfsea] OT about Craigs List Find -SO much for Chivalry

Don't let one experience or even a few sour you on the SCA. Despite being
run by people who have the good and bad attributes of people, this is a
marvelous organization. The average SCA person is nicer, more honest, and
more intelligent than the average population. We are full of creative people
and people who cherish honor and chivalry. Every group will have people who
do not live up to the ideals of the group and they will stand out and be
noticed because of their being the exception. But the SCA has many fewer of
them than most.

I was so excited to see this post Lochlan posted yesterday. I called her,
spoke at lenght with her about. This was to outfit young Wolfhart, properly,
Now that he is 16, he wants to play with the big boys, especially the helm
and metal shield. We agree to the price of 275, she said it was ours and
said she would text me her address in the morning. I had even told her we
could come up last night and get it, with cash in hand of course. No she
said morning would be better.

 

This morning at 754 am I received the text with her address, and we were
off. We live in south Arlington almost to Mansfield, Haltom City is not
around the corner. On our way there, I received another text- Her son had
three other interested people, and the price was now 300 -who ever got to
her house  first with the correct amount got it. I tried calling her-no
answer, we were in Bedford so we continued. We weren't first because they
would not even answer the door.

 

So much for Honor and Chivalry, maybe it is a good thing that these people
no longer participate, because they have none. I am discussed with the buyer
too, but may hap they did not realize that there was a prior agreement or
did not care. 

 

Myself(as a single mom) and children(they are now20,16&12) have been paid
members since 2004. According to the recent BlackStar we are about average
in play time. Also one of the reasons people leave again according to the BS
is bad experiences-this is one of them(as well as our last event we
attended). I hope the person who purchased the Armour's first fight is
against a VERY strong fighter. I generally am not a vindictive person- but
the experience today is how I feel the SCA is head towards.

 

LIKE IS SAID SO MUCH FOR HONOR AND CHIVALRY!

I foound this on craigslist and thought someone might be interested. $275
OBO for a complete suit of plate, gauntlets, shield, & helm. I dont
recognize the heraldry, but someone may? I spoke w/The poster and she said
it fit's a Medium Build Man?
