ins of Queen's "We Will Rock You" beat their way into the Middle Ages. Peas=
ants beat their fists and chant the chorus, clapping and whoop-whooping the=
ir favorite knight.

The opening sequence is but one of many anachronisms in this hilarious film=
, which opens May 13. The movie is about a young squire named William Thatc=
her (Heath Ledger, The Patriot) who dreams of becoming a knight and jousti=
ng his way to riches, fame and women. His chance comes when his knight, Sir=
Ector (Brian Blessed, Robin Hood: Prince of Theives), is found to have pas=
sed into the next realm. William hatches the idea of creating an alternate =
persona, a knight by the name of Sir Ulrich von Lichtenstein. He wins his f=
irst tournament and is off on his quest to change his stars, risks be damne=
d. With him are his "faithful sidekicks" Wat (Alan Tudyk), Roland (Mark Add=
y, The Full Monty), Kate the blacksmith (Laura Faser, The Man in the Iron M=
ask) and a young herald with a gambling problem, Geoffrey Chaucer (Paul Bet=
tany). That's right, Geoffrey Chaucer. William, of course, falls in love wi=
th a beautiful young lady named Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon) who epitomizes t=
he lady of courtly love - cool, aloof but ultimately attainable. William mu=
st jockey against Count Adehmar (Rufus Sewell, Dangerous Beauty) for Jocely=
n's affections. When Adehmar finds out Sir Ulrich is not what he seems to b=
e, William must choose to run or stay and face his actions.

This movie is a walking anachronism, which makes it the perfect SCA movie. =
I won't spoil everything for you but watch for the great dance scene at the=
victory ball. Brian Helgeland (Academy Award 1997 - L.A. Confidential) wro=
te, produced and directed this gem of a movie that straddles the middle age=
s and the modern age, much like the SCA itself. While watching the movie, t=
he audience cheered, laughed, cried and booed on cue. Audience participatio=
n makes this movie a fun and entertaining experience. Every knight should t=
ake his lady to see this movie. The jousting scenes are awesome to watch. T=
he costumes are almost Baz Luhrman - like but are interesting to look at. A=
ll around, this movie is one of the best this summer, so far.

Out of a possible 5 Ansteorran Stars, A Knight's Tale earns 5 Ansteorran St=
ars.
