
<html><P>Men have danced as performers for as long as 17th century. When the French came into Cairo all the "nice" dancers left and young men took their place. This led to shocked French troops. Men have do stick dances and cane dances. Men dance Shagot in public places wearing a woman's caftan. It is said that men have danced for centuries and there are little known Islamic cults that believe the savior will born to a man so they dance oriental dance to be prepared. Is is accepted that male dancers are proper in the SCA. It is accepted by the SCA that male dancers can and do use the forms of dancing seen in women oriential dance. Modern Middle Eastern men's social dance includes the hand movements and head moves. but has limited hips and shimmys, except for shoulder shimmys. It is an open field and would be a good subject to look into. </P>
