I found the old rules for Clench a Wench.
Form 2 lines. One of Ladies and one of Gentlemen. These lines face 
each other about 20-40 apart. I always played it closer rather than 
farther. The Lords choose numbers if you have 12 Lords they will be 
numbered 1- 12, The Ladies choose letter with no missing letters. IF 
you had 5 ladies the letters would be from a-e. A lord or lady is 
chosen to be first and goes to between the two lines and sits on a 
pillow or stands. We always played it with the person sitting. The 
person sitting on the pillow calls a letter and a number out. If the 
person sitting on the pillow is a lady then the lord runs to kiss her, 
but the lady whose number tries to kiss him. If he is kissed before he 
can kiss the lady on the cushion he takes her place. If the lady 
coming out fails to kiss him she takes the lady on the cushion place. 
Whoever is on the cushion calls the next number and letter. Re-
lettering and Renumbering keeps the game random. According to the 
Pleasure Book," The game usually ends with a rush of the lords line to 
the ladies'--a sort of melee.
