Those who gathered at the house some weeks ago brainstormed about a baronial college that would be a tad bit different. Most, but not all, collegiums are focused on arts and sciences. We thought that perhaps a college that not only had A&S track, but some other features might have a unique draw. For example, having a fighting track specific to melees, as we are preparing for war at that time of year. Making sure that we have a whole host of authorizations for fighters, water bearers, and anyone else who needs a card to get on the field at war or during tourney season. There are never too many marshals at a lyst. We also thought that it would be great to have some SCA 101 classes on things like the basic t tunic and do a "make and take" track, where you arrive with three yards of material, some thread, some trim and a t shirt and you leave with garb or with your new helm padded and strapped or that new shield hung just right. That was just the beginning of the ideas. There were many people there; will some of you fill in the gaps? I know that we have more ideas for that event.<br>

Emerald Keep, Dragonsfire Tor, Glaslyn, Lindenwood, Steppes and Rosenfeld all have events that are as close as the ones that Elfsea hosts, since we often use the same sites. Many of the regional events are camping events. None of these events suffer from having a lack of places to put a tent. Instead of putting yet another camping event in the spring, a late winter college would give our region some much needed variety.</font></font><br>

I have only been around about 10 years, but I have "been around." We like to event, so we make a lot of them and being in the central region means that we can just about get anywhere in 3 to 6 hours, well, except Seawinds. I have been lucky enough to work for two Crowns during their reigns. So, I got to see events from both sides of the thrones. It was an education and gave me some insights as to how events are run from one end of the kingdom to the other.<br>

If you want one at Defender, then build a fire, bring your drums and tell the dancers. You officially now have permission to have fun, get others to have fun, to advertise about a party you are hosting to have said fun and beat on said drums at Defender. Oh, and get Crandall - he is good at that drumming thing. He even took more lessons (or did he teach them) at Gulf War this year. Oh and this does not cost money. Just making sure that you have a fire pit and email to put information on the list. People will bring food and drinks.<br>

We will have times for the competitions and for court and for any other meetings, such as heralds meet and greet, or classes. Past that, it is up to the persons hosting the parties to get the word out. If anyone wants some free advertising, they need only send emails to the Ansteorran list to announce that they are hosting a party.<br>
<br>Oh, and the more parties, the better. Don't think that just because you are having one that someone else can't. happen.</font></div></div></blockquote><div><br>There are some local households that used to make a point to get on early and make some sort of dinner for those who arrive late at night. Some groups still do that, others do not. There are also those who will want to get some sleep for the competitions the next day. Friday night is great for eating and drinking, and bardic, but it is also good for helping people with tent poles and stakes and for holding lanterns.<br>
