As previously posted, SMU has invited us to be part of a wonderful<br>
opportunity at the Meadows Museum on July 12. They are having an exhibition<br>
of 14th and 15th Century Spanish art and this is SMU's Family Day. We are<br>
looking for fighters, artisans, performers, or people just to come and walk<br>
the galleries in costume and talk to people. This is going to be a great<br>
opportunity for the SCA to shine and cultivate a great relationship with the<br>
school.<br>

MEADOWS MUSEUM PRESENTS<br>
"MEDIEVAL FAMILY DAY" ON JULY 12, 11 AM-2 PM<br>

DALLAS (SMU) – The days of Queen Isabella, King Ferdinand and<br>
Christopher Columbus come to life at the Meadows Museum's "Family Day"<br>
celebrating the art and culture of medieval Spain, on Saturday, July 12 from<br>
11 a.m. to 2 p.m.. The event is being held in conjunction with the museum's<br>
current exhibition, "Fernando Gallego and His Workshop: The Altarpiece of<br>
Ciudad Rodrigo - Paintings from the Collection of the University of Arizona<br>
Museum of Art," on view through July 27.<br>
Visitors are invited to step back in time and interact with<br>
members of the royal medieval court in full costume, aka the Society for<br>
Creative Anachronism, who will demonstrate sword fighting and discuss<br>
traditional crafts and culture of the period. Children of all ages will be<br>
able to examine and sketch works of art from the Ciudad Rodrigo altarpiece<br>
and then create their own panel paintings in the art studio; all materials<br>
will be provided. Young and old alike can take the "patron saint quiz" and<br>
find their own personal patron saint in the museum galleries. Docent-guided<br>
tours of the Gallego exhibit will be offered at 11:30 a.m., and of the<br>
permanent collection of Spanish art at 12:30 p.m. Refreshments will be<br>
served throughout the event in the Jones Great Hall.<br>

About the exhibition:<br>
"Fernando Gallego and His Workshop: The Altarpiece from Ciudad Rodrigo –<br>
Paintings from the Collection of the University of Arizona Museum of Art"<br>
focuses on one of the largest, most beautiful and iconographically ambitious<br>
groups of paintings made in 15th-century Spain: 26 panels from the Cathedral<br>
of Ciudad Rodrigo, now in the collection of the University of Arizona Museum<br>
of Art. Executed by Fernando Gallego (c. 1440-1507), Maestro Bartolomé, and<br>
their workshops, the altarpiece tells the Biblical story from the Creation<br>
to the Last Judgment. The crowning achievements of remarkable artists, the<br>
panels have been examined in depth both art historically and, in<br>
collaboration with the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, using the latest<br>
methods of technical analysis, revealing secrets hidden for 500 years. The<br>
research findings, which include scans and X-rays of the paintings'<br>
underdrawings, are on exhibit with the altarpiece. This exhibition and study<br>
has been organized by the Meadows Museum, SMU in association with the<br>
University of Arizona Museum of Art, Tucson and the Kimbell Art Museum. A<br>
generous gift from The Meadows Foundation has made this exhibition and study<br>
possible, with additional support from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation.<br>

During Family Day hours, admission to the museum and its exhibitions is<br>
FREE. The museum is located at 5900 Bishop Blvd. on the campus of Southern<br>
Methodist University. Free parking is available in the museum's underground<br>
garage. Regular museum hours are 10-5 Tues.-Sat.; 10-8 Thurs.; and 12-5 Sun.<br>
The museum is closed Mondays and holidays. Regular museum admission is $8<br>
per person, free on Thursdays after 5 p.m., and free for members and<br>
