oranges are a Christmas tradition here in the US and in Canada. This custom goes
back to the 1880s, when after each November harvest Japanese immigrants began
receiving Japanese mandarin oranges from their families back home as gifts for
the New Year signaling the beginning of the Holiday Season. The tradition
quickly spread among the non-Japanese population and Eastwards across the
country.<SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>Behind China, Spain is now
the second largest producer of mandarin oranges.</FONT></SPAN></FONT></P>

Spanish Courts as early as the 1500’s after contact with the Americas.
