Yes indeed Melanie is period.  She was a saint died in the 5th 
century and traveled throughout the Mediterranean.  I believe
the name was used mainly in France and Italy but will have to
check it after some sleep.  After the party today and chivalric
fighting and the long drive home my blurred vision might give
you some strange references.
