Pesky little buggers, aren't they? Couple of suggestions-

One Virginia country remedy is to put some alcohol(rubbing or drinking)on
the bite,let the alc evaporate,then use the nail polish. If it still itches,
put ammonia on it.
An East Tennessee mountain wives tale-ammonia first is the trick to stop the
itch. Then, Nail polish to smother the chigger.

Also, Campho-phenique works great for the itchies. (can be had @ any
drug/grocery store-is pricey, but well worth it. IMHO)
