I read this off /. and thought it might be of interest.

It seems that in 1986 the UK compiled a new electronic Domesday Book.  They
used the BBC Master computers to compile the project and saved the results
on Laserdisc.  Unfortunately 15 years later there is no equipment left that
can read those Laserdiscs.

The 1086 version as commissioned by William the Bastard is still going
strong and available online via http://www.domesdaybook.co.uk/
