[Gatesedge] Fw: [Steppes] The end of "Whack-a-Knight" at demo's

I have spoken to Modius and the new ruling says specifically "rattan" swords. We can still use boffer type weapons and the kids can whack at the knights with that.

  Hey Eadric,
I'm on just every kingdom list I can subscribe to and a few out of kingdom ones. I don't really "read" most posts as I glean the subject lines for interesting items of a personal or historical interest nature. I only get 3 or 4 hundred posts a day. Hey, if Pug can do it, so can I. :-) How was war? I saw some rain head that way once or twice.

I read that as "authorized" myself. And my interpretation of what was written by Modius is that coporate says that *any* unauthorized person, adult or child, is no longer to be permitted to "whack" on a fighter at a demo. But if I were planning a demo, I would definately want to contact Modius first and just make sure. We have had so many demos where this was done it seems almost like one of our "traditions" but I certainly can appreciate the liablility issue.

You are not an archeologist trying to construct a society that has been lost. You are a historian who is preserving what is now for the future to learn about us.The only SCA historians who will be SCA archeologists will be our heirs if we, as historians today, fail to do our jobs properly.

Dang Annes, how many lists do you read? Where to you find the time?

Anyway, what they would mean is "authorized" fighters since very few fighters are actually warranted.

Of course a lot of these demos also had children whacking on adults which is also a whole nother kettle of fish besides just the authorization aspect.

    Regards,

    -EA

This is the email that I saw on the Steppes list which I brought up at
Monday's Populace meeting. I suggest that if you have questions about it
that you should write to Master Modius and/or your up-line.

This was sent from the Kingdom Seneschal....

>From this point forward the practice of "Whack-a-Knight" at demos must
end. Going forward, only warranted fighters may take part in combat
related activities at demos. This means you cannot give a rattan
sword to a non-warranted demo attendee and let them hit you while you
are in armor. This comes down from Corporate.

Since we have a little demo this weekend, I thought I had better share

this.
