I know many in our group who are already actively helping friends, family and strangers during these hard times. My question is this: Do we wish, as a group, to take up donations for a specific cause and/or donate our time as a group to a local need? Our populace soon approaches, it might be nice to take up a collection there. I am personally interested in helping our local school districts cope with the rapid influx of students who have no school supplies and dedicating time at the food bank. The question really boils down to, are we interested in helping out as individuals, or as a group? And if it is as a group, where do we want our efforts to be focused. Just in case you are interested, examples of school supplies needed may be found by following the link below. http://www.cfisd.net/aboutour/supplies/supplies.htm Thank you, Natalia __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I have a question I hope someone can answer for me. I'm hunting down fabric shops in the area, and have some more questions. Is there a cheaper fabric store in the city than either High Fashion Fabrics or Universal Fabric? I'm seeing things 4 to 8 times more expensive than what I've seen them cost in Dallas and Minneapolis, and NYC, now that I think about it. I'm shopping for a show and am aghast at the prices. We're talking exactly the same fabrics. It's crazy. I can't force myself to actually buy from them. I'm not shy about spending money on fabric, but I don't want to waste other peoples' money, either. I've been to the sari shops (which I loved), and have found some things there, but I really need to find a fabric store with __sane__ pricing for fashion fabrics such as solids of silk georgette, tafetta, cut velvets, burnout velvets, silk 4 ply, and the like. I've also been to Glicks, which was disappointing, and to the standard Hancock's/Jo-Ann/Hobby Lobby stuff. So I guess I'm asking two things: Is there an alternative I'm not aware of? and Is anybody planning a quick trip to the Dallas fabric district any time in the next three weekends? I'm willing to carpool/share hotels/etc. (But not next weekend--almost forgot) Thanks! I really appreciate any advice I can get. No trees down. We have never lost power (yet) and now I hope that it will not go out. Mark (Thorgard) is out in his rain coat taking tape off of windows, moving the cars/trucks back up next to the house and letting the dog run in the yard. We still have stiff breezes but nothing bad. For those who want to know the Kingdom's History is just fine. I *was* concerned that it might be threatened but all is well. Now we just have to wait and see where power *is* out to see if I will be in school on Monday and how long before stores open so supplies can be had. We have plenty to eat and drink and full tanks of gas and power to run the AC and the refridge. For all the prayers and energies, Thank you. For those in the Beaumont, Lake Charles area my best wishes that the storm did minimal damage and you will soon be home safe. If I can help any of my friends there, just give me a call on cell or landline. Annes -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Talmon and Calrcuccio weathered the storm here and are getting ready to go home. My Sisters and Brothers-in-law that stayed here have already left to head home back to Brazoria county. When the storm turn east we wound up being on the clean side and it was really kinda anti-climactic. Back when was measured at 897 millibars (the second strongest storm ever measured) and was heading straight for us it was kinda scary. There isn't any gasoline within probably 5 counties of us. So we might find some evacuees knocking at our door looking for shelter when the morning comes. It could happen. Don't know how much longer I will be able to communicate. My plan is to be at gate between 7:00 am and 10:00 am handing each participant a bottle of water. After 10:00 am or when fighting starts, I will have troll distribute the water as people come through gate. The participants can refill these bottles at the waterbearing area which will be located under the large pavilion during the day as needed.
