Aleeasar will hold an open Middle Eastern drumming and belly-dance practice at
our house next Wednesday night, August 11th, 2010, from 7:00pm until about
9:30pm. If the response from last week's session is any guide, it promises to
be a fun time for all! We had 15 people, including drummers and dancers (most
of whom wanted to learn a little drumming to help with their dancing). All
experience levels are welcome! We have several very experienced drummers and
dancers who love to teach!
This time we will start with the drummers in the living room, while Gwen takes
the dancers into the kitchen to practice their dance moves to the accompaniment
of the drummers. Then, when the dancers are ready, they will come back into the
living room with the drummers and dance while we drum!
Bring your own drinks and/or snacks. If you have a favorite drumming stool, you
may want to bring that along too. There should be a few loaner drums available
if you don't own one yet. Other Middle Eastern style musical and percussion
instruments are welcome too, though that is not our current focus.
No adult beverages or other intoxicants, please...."Friends don't let friends
drum drunk!" While we have nothing against imbibing occasionally, we have found
that it is easier to learn (and hold a beat) with a clear head.
If you need directions, please contact me off-list. If you would like to join
the Yahoo Group we use, (where you will find directions, sheet music, links,
pictures, and ring tones!) click on the following link:

Aleeasar is not a guild. We are not an official SCA group of any kind, nor are
we currently associated with any professional or amateur troupe. We are a loose
association of drummers and dancers of widely varied skill levels who like to
get together and practice. Our goal is to increase the awareness of, and
participation in, Middle Eastern music and dancing in the Greater Houston area.
"Aleeasar" is, as near as we can tell, Arabic for "the hurricane". ;-)
Yours in Service,
Herr Dietrich Strobelbart
