Greetings Glaslynders:

For those of you heading FROM Denton to anywhere down I-35W 
(like to Emerald Tourney this weekend ) I thought you all might be 
interested in this traffic alert.

Traffic will be extraordinarily heavy on I-35W due to NASCAR 
events at the Texas Motor Speedway Thursday, Friday, Saturday 
and Sunday (March 29 - April 1). The races on Saturday and 
Sunday are expected to draw between 125,000 and 220,000 racing 
fans. If you plan to travel in the area, you will want to be aware of 
these races because of their impact on traffic. Read on for 
specifics:

Thursday, March 29
O'Reilly's Qualifying Day for Jani-King 300 NASCAR Busch event. 
All day. Up to 60,000 fans expected. 

Southern Bleacher Classic on Dirt Track at 7 p.m. About 20,000 
fans are expected.

Friday, March 30
O'Reilly's Qualifying Day for Harrah's 500 NASCAR Winston Cup 
event. All day. Up to 60,000 fans expected. 

Saturday, March 31
Jani-King 300 Race at noon. Gates open at 8 a.m. Up to 125,000 
fans expected. 

UDTRA Pro DirtCar Series on Dirt Track at 6:30 p.m. About 20,000 
fan are expected.

Sunday, April 1
Harrah's 500 NASCAAR Race at noon. Gates open at 8 a.m. 
About 220,000 fans are expected.

Recommended routes to the speedway (and routes to avoid if you 
want to stay out of heavy traffic) are I-35W and Texas 114. Also, be 
advised that many race fans may travel on I-35E to Denton to go 
south on I-35W to the speedway.

Check newspapers and radio/television traffic advisories for further 
information.
