Steppes Business Meeting
November 4, 2003
 
With much thanks to Lord Mikael.  And my apologies to all that this is so
late in being posted.  It is my fault, not Lord Mikael's.

∙The meeting opened with applause for the first issue of the
SteppesLetter from the new Chronicler, Lady Kynborough.  If you haven't
seen it, find one.
∙Herald √ Sir Mahdi reported there were 4 (or 5) submissions √ some
armory submissions √ there will be commentary at his house on November
19th √ the Herald▓s office is open and applications for it are being
accepted (since he's just been announced as the new Baron).
∙Arts & Sciences √ Lord Vincenzo reported that the A&S office is open,
with bids closing at the November populace meeting. The Kingdom A&S
Symposium will be held every other year, alternating with Laurel▓s Prize
Tourney. There will be a Collegium on Saturday, November 22 at The Wooden
Spoon in Plano, subject will  be 12th Night Gifts, attendants can
participate in a pot-luck lunch.
∙Treasurer √ Lord John de Irwynne reported that the Barony has money. 
Fall Court attendance was 78. The office of Treasurer is open, so far 1
bid has been submitted.
∙Hospitaler √ Lady Clare reported that at the Celtic Heritage Demo 10 new
people signed up. Since the last Business meeting 5 people have attended
their 1st meeting and 9 people have been contacted.
∙Chronicler √ Lady Kynborough  reported formatting problems with the
first issue, and requested corrections from the populace.
∙Knight Marshal √ Lord Morgan Buchanan reported that 3 fighter practices
have been held since the last business meeting, there have been many
deaths (in character), but no injuries. New fighters are slowly acquiring
their own armor and dispensing with the loaner gear.
∙Rapier Marshal √ Absent, no report.
∙Archery Marshal √ Lord Jacques reported that practices have been held,
and 6 people have submitted scores for IKAC. The archers continue to work
on ⌠stuff". The position of Archery Marshal is currently open, with one
bid received.
∙Chirurgeon √ Lady Liadan related that there have been no injuries
reported, and that there is a new Kingdom Chirurgeon and Water-Bearer.
∙Demo Coordinator √ Lord Iames reminded members that the International
Festival Demo at St. Mark▓s School in Dallas is Saturday, Nov. 8th. He
detailed the schedule and arrangements for participant parking.
∙Equestrian Marshall √ Absent, no report.
∙Virtual Scribe √ Hubert reported that the calendar had been updated, and
that November▓s populace meeting was supposed to be at Lady Averial▓s.
∙Glaslyn √ No member present, no report given.
∙Lindenwood √ Will be holding their populace meeting on November 18 at
Jaycee Park in Irving.
∙Fall Court Event Steward √ Lady Esther has been ill, unable to make a
report.
∙Upcoming Events √ 12th Night  - Will be held Saturday, January 3rd, at
Sokol Hall in Ennis √ ad is in the Black Star √ December 20th is cutoff
for feast reservations, $8.00 per person for feast, in addition to $7.00
site fee. Merchants will be allowed to set up outside, but must provide
their own tables, chairs, etc, and must have State Sales Tax Permit. H.L.
Muireann▓s Cartography competition that was to have been held at Warlord,
will be held instead at 12th Night. Hall opens at 11 a.m., Eistedfodd
beings at 2 p.m.  And don't forget the Baronial Investiture, too.
∙Herbal Guild √ Next meeting is on Monday, November 10, at Lady Liadan▓s.
∙Bowyers and Fletchers Guild √ next meeting is on Wednesday, November
12th at Lord Iames▓.
∙Clothier▓s and Textiles Guild √ Next class is Thursday, November 6th at
Lady Elsbeth▓s.
∙Calligrapher▓s and Illuminator▓s Guild √ the Guild needs charters, and
was pleased to announce the donation of approximately $250.00 worth of
supplies from Lady Kynborough.
∙Dance Guild √ About 20 participants show up each week. Cast members from
Scarborough Faire are showing up to join in.
∙Mistress Serena broached the subject of throwing a going-away party for
Mistress Lasair before she departs the Steppes.
∙His Excellency Fritz commented that Fall Court went well, and that Lady
Esther deserved a great deal of credit for it. The December Business
meeting will also include an Oaks meeting. The December populace meeting
scheduled for Friday, December 19th is subject to rescheduling, due to
the possibility of Their Excellencies having traveling plans. The Sokol
Hall in Ennis is reserved for Coronation, to be held Saturday, January
10th, but no one has come forward yet to run the event. His Excellency
asked if Steppes would like to run it? (Many in agreement.)
╥Sir Mahdi √ Their Majesties were impressed by the civility and
orderliness of the selection of the Baronial Successors.
╥The office of Quartermaster is open, 1 bid has been received.
