There is a concert starting at 8:00p.m. Friday. Not SCA but just good music. Cheap at any price. The Festival and the demo open at NOON on both Saturday and Sunday. The demo closes at 6:00 on both days. I will need help earlier Saturday and later Sunday for set up and tear down. PLEASE!! I need mundane names also for the attendance lists so you can be checked in as demo participants (FREE up to 25 people each day!) A few volunteers will be needed to assist the festival in keeping up with our attendees. Please volunteer for the festival if you can. It is just a couple of hours per shift. Check festival web site for details. I still need fighters, artisans, and just gentles to help with new member recruitment!! We are all here in service to the dream. After fearing that we would have to cancel the event this year for lack of a site, we have gained permission to hold the event at the Celtic Heritage Festival site. The Celtic Heritage Festival has graciously reduced the fee for our members to $5.00 for adults. But you must pre-register (the first twenty-five people in the CHF gate for the demo get in free). If you don't pre-register, you will have to pay the full fee of $7.00 per adult at the gate. The site is dry, and we must unfortunately be off-site by midnight. These are city and a park regulations. Fall Court will begin at 7:00 in the evening on Saturday, October 9, 2004. We will have a large permanent pavilion for our use. It has picnic tables and grills. If the pavilions we set up for the demo during the day are not spacious enough, we have permission to put up more. We will be in the same location as last year. More details about the site will be posted soon. We can begin bringing in food at 6:00, and we will have use of the pavilion as soon as the last CHF demonstrator has left. For those attending the demo and bringing food, please bring your food, and if it's in a cooler, bring a mudanity cover. As always, Fall Court is a Pot Luck. HL Saqra has volunteered to coordinate the dishes being brought to the event, so please contact her at jsaunders at Evercom.net, and let her know what you want to bring. *Everyone* is strongly encouraged to bring something, as there is no "main dish" being provided by the Barony, as in years past. Please join us for food, camaraderie and story-telling. Come and make new friends, or catch up with old friends. There will be live music, as the traditional Caeli will be happening at CHF that evening. Come join the Baron & Baroness for a relaxing evening in the harvest season. Plenty of electrical outlets, and lights in the apex of each pavilion. There are 4 grills that are 5 ft long each. And 15 picnic tables that are 8 ft each. The center pavilion has a slightly raised portion, which could serve as a stage, and on the far side of that pavilion is a fire pit that is 7 ft across (there's even an electrical outlet on the back of the fire pit!). Oh yeah, and the pits and stakes for playing Horseshoes. So bring your discarded horseshoes or your Bocce Ball and let's have some fun all day long. See you there! The hot food and hot apple cider warmed many a cold, damp member who trekked through rain and mud to participate. I must express a special thank you to a number of people: HL Francesca for her admirable organization and interface with the Celtic Heritage Festival personnel, Ld Bre’nain for his organization of a very impressive demo which attracted many viewers to our rather remote location, Ldy Gerita for her superb assistance in getting the food organized and set up, Ldy Donal for her contribution of her personal gear to offer those who forgot feast gear the opportunity to eat, HL Corwyn for his assistance at the grill and for helping load my vehicle at the end of the event, His Excellency Mahdi for his excellent prowess on the field (and for his two intrepid fellow fighters who allowed him to beat up on them!), and Their Excellencies Mahdi and Valeria for their leadership and inspiration to have FUN at Fall Court. You all made my job of organizing the food very easy, and that made for a fun and filling time for us all! As always, my special thanks go to Mistress Kalida and Sir Thoreld (Thorkel) who, besides helping me load everything in my car in the rain at the event, are my constant inspiration in everything I do within the Society. Finally catching my breath, but only for a moment. What a day and evening! ! The demo on Saturday was well-staffed, thanks to many good gentles and nobles alike. Thank you to everyone who made the effort to come out despite the moist climate, especially to everyone from Elfsea. HL Raimon and Lady Aurelia from Elfsea were there, as were two of their newcomers Jean Michel and Muirenn. I'm sure there were others there, but their names escape me. But their contributions are no less appreciated. We were slightly less staffed on Sunday, but made a good showing anyway. Fortunately, everything dried out enough that we didn't have to pack up anything while it was wet. Thank you also to Lord Bre'nain, Lady Gerita and HL Saqra for their assistance in coordinating and advertising the two events. Lady Anne, Lord Bre'nain, HL Raimon, M'Lord Jean Michel, M'lady Muirenn, and Lord Agilwulf assisted with set-up. Thank you to ALL of the artisans who brought displays, and took turns speaking with the many curious folk who stopped by the Baronial Pavilion. Thank you also, Lord Bre'nain and Lady Anne for setting up your "dressing pavilion". It came in quite handy for the fighters and late comers to Fall Court. Thanks also to the fighters who dazzled the spectators, and those who marshalled and answered questions. I ask the pardon and forgiveness of each of the participants for not being able to name each of you individually. Your contributions at this important event are invaluable. Fall Court was a success despite the rain. HL Saqra was quite correct about the feast. We had plenty of food for everyone and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. A heartfelt "Thank You" goes to each of you who came out for this relaxing event. I saw many folk visiting and enjoying themselves before Court began. And the repast was tasty and filling. I wanted much more than I could eat. Centurion Morgan Buchanan did an excellent job of heralding Their Excellencies Court. Two "Japanese" newcomers were introduced to their Excellencies, and despite the fact that they are exiled from their homeland by the Emperor, Mahdi and Valeria granted them safe haven here in Ansteorra. During their introduction, Mahdi requested the counsel of another of his Japanese subjects, Tenchi Sueko-san. When the newcomers were excused from Court, Mahdi asked Sueko to stay. It was then that the Herald read the scroll from The Majesties, Drake and Sibri, recognizing Tenchi Sueko-san with a Sable Thistle in Japanese Culture. CONGRATULATIONS SUEKO! VIVAT! When the newcomers questioned the custom here of allowing a woman to receive the award in her own hand, they quickly learned that Ansteorran women are a force to be reckoned with. Court was closed shortly after that. Many stayed a short while, and there were many hands to help clean-up so it went quickly. Please if I missed anything or anyone, don't hesitate to add that here on the list. I would enjoy hearing of friendships made or strengthened during the days passing. The last remaining dozen archery competitors entering the final rounds shall have their blazon displayed upon a status board as the tournament continues so our spectators may keep up with their champion archer's progress. Don't have a blazon, make yourself one up for the day (remember this isn't an SCA event). We're doing this for fun and in the hope more archers will be encouraged to submit their own devises. Twenty-six of their Populace attended the Board of Directors Meeting on Saturday. The meeting was very interesting and informative. If you have never been to a Board of Directors Meeting, I highly recommend it. Sometimes seeing a meeting like this can put things in perspective. The contributions from the audience were very helpful to the BoD. In the evening the Barony hosted a period revel that was well-attended, both by the BoD and Officers, our visitors from Gleann Abhann, and the Populace of the Barony. The Steppes Dance Guild, led by HL Guillaume, HL Isabeau, and HL Helene graciously provided music throughout the evening, as well as dancing. The Guild did a few demonstrations, and some of the party-goers even joined them for some of the easier and better known dances. Thank you to the Guild for this contribution to the Barony. I would also like to thank HL Lete, HL Chiara, and Lady Nuala for their assistance with the Welcome Gifts for the Board Members and Society Officers who attended. Upon their arrival at the hotel, they each received a yellow glove embroidered with the Steppes ensign. Inside the gauntlet of the glove were Herbal Teas, a Dream Pillow, a Needle Sharpener, and a Bookmark. Several of the Board Members and Officers complemented the Barony on the thoughtfulness of these gifts. And I cannot forget to thank those who assisted with tear-down after the festivities ended. Thank you to their Excellencies Mahdi and Valeria, Master Robin and Mistress Serena, HL Katya, and Arcus Jacques. Thank you also to HL Lete for lettering the revel invitations for each of the BoD Members and Officers. The center pavilion has a slightly raised portion, which could serve as a stage, and on the far side of that pavilion is a fire pit that is 7 ft across (there's even an electrical outlet on the back of the fire pit!). I must express a special thank you to a number of people: HL Francesca for her admirable organization and interface with the Celtic Heritage Festival personnel, Ld Bre?nain for his organization of a very impressive demo which attracted many viewers to our rather remote location, Ldy Gerita for her superb assistance in getting the food organized and set up, Ldy Donal for her contribution of her personal gear to offer those who forgot feast gear the opportunity to eat, HL Corwyn for his assistance at the grill and for helping load my vehicle at the end of the event, His Excellency Mahdi for his excellent prowess on the field (and for his two intrepid fellow fighters who allowed him to beat up on them!), and Their Excellencies Mahdi and Valeria for their leadership and inspiration to have FUN at Fall Court. Use the standard SCA blazon submission sheet for the size required (5" wide x 6" high heater shield). Black & white is OK as we shall provide map colors to fill in colored areas. Don't have a blazon, make yourself one up for the day (remember this isn't an SCA event). We're doing this for fun and in the hope more archers will be encouraged to submit their own devises. Be advised, we plan on doing this again for future archery tournaments as well! Safe journey, and we hope to see you there! Regards, HL Wm. Ironwyrm Archery marshal in charge of the wedding archery tournament PS: No, photocopies shall not be returned intact, however you may have the poster board plaque after the wedding concludes. I'll have everything else you need right here. Please don't refuse to come if you don't have time to acquire supplies - I have a bit to share! I had never taken a good look at the pavilion before. I knew it was there, just never went over an looked at it. Three adjoining hexagonal pavilions that are 21 ft to a side. The third traffic signal is Bedford Road. Turn left. Then turn right at the second traffic signal, which is Forest Ridge Dr. At the top of the hill turn left into the site (just past the traffic Signal). Take the fist right after entering the park and park in the parking lot. Go to main check-in, complete the necessary paperwork, get your yellow wristband, then join us at our pavilion on the left site of the site. If you have a lot to unload for the demo or Fall Court, let them know at check-in so you can get past the barricade you saw on your left as you came in. You can come in, unload, and then move your conveyance back out to the parking lot. CHF main check-in has a list of all the SCA folk who pre-registered. If you pre-registered, site fee is only $5.00 for adults. If you didn't, the fee will be $7.00. This is the fee that CHF set, not the SCA. We had ample food and drink to serve twice as many people as showed up, and we had around 35 show up! The hot food and hot apple cider warmed many a cold, damp member who trekked through rain and mud to participate.
