HEAR YE.....HEAR YE....HEAR YE..... The Barony of the Steppes, Kingdom of Ansteorra, invites all eligible artisans to the 16th celebration and the selection of the next STEPPES ARTISAN for 2003/2004. On Saturday, August 2nd, at Lakeside Ranch in Midlothian, starting at 9:00AM, the doors open to this exciting event. Registration starts, for those who have not pre-registrered via the web site, and judging starts at 10:00AM. On the same day, the Steppes Champion in ARCHERY and RAPIER will be named. These awards were postponed from an earlier event that was rained out. Please come and admire these superb fighters at their best, their pleasure at your presence will be obvious to all. There will be two buffet style meals served on this day, prepared by the best cooks of Ansteorra. The costs are part of the site fee, but bring your feast gear. There will be wash stations for clean up between meals. Steppes Artisan is an event that draws the best and most unusual and beautiful works from throughout the kingdom. Some of the finest cooks will prepare for judging dishes from the mist famous kitchens of the middle ages. Brewers will have wines, meads, and ales for judging, and some perhaps for sampling. There will be jewelry, dresses, armor, blacksmithing, period pavilions, furniture, wood block printing, calligraphy, needlework, herbal preparations, and so much more. Come see how articles from a time long gone were made and used!!! The site fee, including the two meals, is $12.00 for adults, $8.00 for children 5-17, under 5 free. There is a $3.00 surcharge for all non members. Garb is required, and site tokens will be required for entry in all events. Observers are very welcome.
