THE BARONY OF THE STEPPES, Kingdom of Ansteorra, invites all eligible artisans to the 16th celebration and the selection of the next STEPPES ARTISAN for 2003/2004. On Saturday, August 2nd, at Lakeside Ranch in Midlothian, TX, starting at 9:00 AM, the doors open to this exciting event.Registration starts at that hour for those who have not preregistered via the web site. Judging starts at 10:00 AM. On the same day, the Steppes Champions in ARCHERY and RAPIER will be named after a day's competition. These awards were postponed from an earlier event that was rained out. Please come and admire the skill and ability of the superb fighters at their best. Their pleasure at your admiration will be obvious to all. There will be two buffet style meals served this day, prepared by the best cooks of Ansteorra. The costs of the meals is included in the site fee, but bring your own feast gear. There will be washing stations for clean up between meals. STEPPES ARTISAN is an event that draws the best and most unusual and beautiful works from throughout the Kingdom. Some of the finest cooks will prepare for judging dishes from some of the most famous kitchens of the middle ages. Brewers will have wines, meads, and ales for judging, and perhaps sampling. There will be jewelry, clothing from all ages, armor and weapons, woodworking, blacksmithing, leather work, period pavilions, furniture, wood block printing, calligraphy and illumination, needlework, herbal preparations, and so much more. Come and see how items from a time long past were made and used!!! The site fee for SCA members is $12.00 for adults, $8.00 for children (5-17), under 5 free. There is a $3.00 surcharge for non members. Appropriate garb is required for attendance, and site tokens will be required for entrance in all events.
