The carpets illustrated in this article are all 18c.

There has been quite a bit of confusion over what is machine knitted, and
as usual, it always comes down to semantics. To some people, anything that
is not formed on individual needles is "machine-knitted", although, as
someone pointed out, peg knitting is really a form of handwork and is not
mechanized.

There is still some question on exactly how the Germanic carpets were created.
