According to Threadneedle Street (Now defunct) Elizabeth I gave one she
worked to Katherine Parr. She was eleven at the time (1544).
To quote the article "Following the custom common in privileged circles
from the 1300's of covering favorite or especially valued manuscripts in
elaborate trappings, she devised a book cover."
