An idea on museums etc. that don't allow tripods.
My husband bought a monopod, and has used it in these situations. It's like
a telescopic stick with a camera mount at the top. Very easy to stick in a
camera bag, too. Then you use your own legs as the other two parts of the
tripod. This works very well. He's never had any troubles with it, either
bureaucratically or photographically.
