Egad, it sounds almost easier to make my own! :-O However, I'll file this
information away -- many thanks! (and I thought trying cloth stitch was
scary!)

The description is harder to follow than the technique is. A number of
"withdrawn element" techniques start with this step -- Russian Drawn Ground
work comes to mind. If you can pull threads for fancy hemstitching, you can
pull them for filet!
