HNW - needle weaving

Hello the List
I have found a book on needle weaving which seems to produce something
like  tapestry (different weave for joining colors so there are no slits
to sew up).  I would like to try my hand at this (needle weaving and
tapestry).  Any suggestions for materials and resources and instructions
for a beginner?
