Recent historical use of tambour: Anyone remember the Sonny and Cher show
on TV? Bob Mackie designed many elabourately beaded things for Cher to
wear (like a new one every week), and production deadlines were met by
using tambour beading on them. Without this technique there couldn't have
been as many of these fabulous things, nor could they have been afforded in
the first place. The beading was all done on really sheer stuff, and some
parts were lined to opacity/legal decency when the dress was assembled.
