It's a commonly available thread that's slightly thicker, and I think
probably has a slight finish of some sort, when compared with regular
"all purpose" sewing thread. It's very handy for sewing on things that
will take a lot of abuse--buttons, hooks and eyes, etc.  Can also be
used (although you'd probably have to adjust your tension) in the sewing
machine for topstitching--you get an effect similar to commercially
produced jeans.  Also can use it to handsew on those leather elbow
