Hi
I did a few felt hats & samples for a friend. Handspun medium and 
longwool fleece, 2 ply. They wouldn't felt! I did the temp change, 
soap ETC. Then I got mad and grabbed the only ridged thing I could 
find--a nasty broiler pan. I rubbed and rubbed. When the broiler pan 
was clean we had nice dense felt that had shrunk the right amount. So 
now we still joke that it ain't felt till the pan is clean...
