[HNW] Ink for Linen

Hello everyone,
  My current project is an alter cloth from Lower Saxony in the 14th Century.  I took some pictures at the V&A of a partially finished piece.  I have the Cennini references.  I have learned to cut a quill.  So, I am a sure that I want to apply in this manner.
  Has anyone tried any period inks on linen?  If not, has anyone done modern inks on linen?
