Hi,
No, the motifs are made with a thin gold thread, and outlined with a thicker one. I am sure the thicker is couched, but the solid areas i think is worked in satin stitch.

Wouldn't it make more sense to lay the gold and couch it? That is the way it was often done. It would still be in straight lines.
