[HNW] origin of muffs

I'm not sure of the origin, but they were used pretty heavily throughout the 16th Century, especially in the German/Holy Roman Empire region. I'd start looking in that region.

Does anybody here have any idea when muffs started to be in use for ladies?
I just finnished one, and i thoaght that i really dont know how old muffs are.......
