Poulaines - (French, "Polish") Shoes with extravagantly long and pointed toes. Fashionable in 14th and 15th Century France and Burgundy. Also called Cracowes, poulaines affected the gait, dance and etiquette of the wearer, toe points were sometimes bound by thongs or small chains to the wearers knees or belt for freer foot function. Following Polish fashion, poulaines were derived from the earlier pigaches.
