I just got my copy of Bone, Anlter, Ivory and Horn (BIAH) in the mail and it is well worth the $23 to get it!

As I perused the pages I was amazed at what medieval artisans made out of these materials.

Decorative coffers
Stamps (for stamping leather)
Molds for casting
Combs
Needles and pins

Hairbrushes
Spoons
Apple corer (that's the theory)
Woodplane
Handles for various implements
Sword and dagger hilts
Scabbard chapes
Arrow heads
Crossbow nuts
Horn plates on a spangenhelm
Drinking horn
Flutes
Whistles
Lyre pegs
Lyre bridges
Skates (who's up for trying those out?)
Chess pieces
Game tokens
Dice
Coin balance
Seal matrix
Spectacle frames
Writing tablet
Stylus for writing tablets
Bracelets
Amulets
Belt buckles (I would trade a wooden chest for one of these)
Belt strap ends
Beads and buttons
Mirror cases
Ear scoops (beats car keys)

Where can you get bone for these projects? Good question.
Local hunters
Butcher shops
Ebay
Fire Mountain Gems
Petco
Petsmart

Happy carving!
