If I may give more advice: I suggest not considering everything to be
set in concrete.  For example, I've seen people change their names,
their arms, their personae, and all.  Groups can do that too, if they
like.  For mottos in particular, for example, the Steppes has used a
few mottos, more or less official or unofficial depending.
