If you bring a color copy of your work, you can also compete in A&S with the

(Cover contest gets the copy; A&S judges get the real deal.)

I was told the prizes are good!

If you have not already heard, at Candlemas this year, I will be sponsoring
a Newsletter Cover Art Competition

to show-case some of the artistic talent in the Barony and surrounding areas
and to acquire art to use on the cover of the Baronial newsletter.

The competition is called “Rock, Parchment, Halberd.”

Halberd – Is the name of the Bryn Gwlad Baronial Newsletter, and is a
prominent charge

in the Bryn Gwlad Baronial device. (See upper left corner of
this page.)

Parchment – That surface that pre-dates paper for as a ground for artistic
works.

Rock – These “rocks” being beads made from natural stone or glass, to cast
your popular vote.

(These will be provided but quantities may be limited. Feel
free to bring your own.)

Winning placements will be:

1.	First - Their Excellencies’ Choice – to be chosen by their
Excellencies of Bryn Gwlad.
2.	Second - Chronicler’s Choice – to be chosen by the Chronicler of
Bryn Gwlad.
3.	Third - Populace Choice – the one that has the most votes as
determined by amount of largess (beads or small tokens) from the populace.

Guidelines for Contestants:

The subject matter of the work must be family and work environment friendly.

Preferences will be given to works that contain Halberds or the baronial
device for the Barony of Bryn Gwlad

incorporated into them. The Bryn Gwlad Baronial Device is:

Argent, on a bend sinister between two compass stars of ten points each
environed of a laurel wreath sable a halberd Or.

(For a visual:

Entries should be art that copies a period style or a work that illustrates
daily medieval life and/or exemplifies some aspect

of what we do in the SCA.

The artwork must be able to be reduced down to fit a 7.5” x 10” size.
(That’s one 8.5”x11” sheet of paper with allowance

for a half inch margin.) Paper should be no larger than 8.75” x 11.5” in
order to accommodate scanner bed.

To Enter:

Create a work of art that fits with the above criteria.

Here is your entry form:
http://chronicler.ansteorra.org/ReleaseCreative%20Fillable.pdf.

Please fill it out as best you can and bring it to the event along with your
artwork.

Please, do not check “Option one”.

The newsletter is published electronically.

Lady Renée will be present at the event if you have questions or need help
filling out the form. Forms will be available on site.

The contest is open from 9AM to 2PM at Bryn Gwlad’s Candlemas.

Even if you do not win a prize, your art may still be featured in an
upcoming issue.

To Win:

This contest is open to all residents of Ansteorra. The only stipulation is
that your entry must be present to win, and it must accompany a signed
release form. Please supply a quality photo or copy of the entry if you
also plan to compete in the Baronial A&S Competition, this way you can
compete in both!

Winners will be announced with prizes awarded in evening court.

To Vote:

Some largess will be provided. The populace is welcome to supply their own.

Prizes:

Prize placements will include gift cards to John Neal Bookseller and Dick
Blick.
