[Hellsgate] Armor Making Advice?

Hi, I live in the Belton area and really wanted to get into leather armor making. What would be the best place to purchase leather/what kind of leather would I be purchasing to do this? (8,9, or 10oz?). I already have the tools to start (sans dye) and really want to begin. Any links/information also for shaping/decorating advice would be majorly helpful.
