and dates Cristall Knowis to 1549 and Christall Murray to 1561.  
It is a diminutive form of Christopher.
    Woulfe's Irish Names and Surnames page 345 
MacChrystall 'son of Christal' (a form of Christopher).
    Withycombe page 70 entry Crystal gives Crystal and 
Chrystal as a lowland Scot pet form of Christopher.
